EveryDollar alternatives. Four honest picks.

Written by the team that makes Pockita, one of the picks below. Where another app is the better fit, we say so.
EveryDollar makes zero-based budgeting simple, but bank sync costs extra. If that price or the Ramsey approach is why you are looking, the switch depends on what you want to keep. Zero-based with a 34-day trial: YNAB. Envelopes with a free plan: Goodbudget. A synced dashboard: Monarch Money. Quick phone logging with no bank: Pockita.
Try Pockita free for 7 days, then $9.99 a month. Or pay $39.99 once for lifetime access.
Why people look for an EveryDollar alternative
Bank sync is a Premium feature. EveryDollar’s help center says the free version has no bank connection, so you add transactions by hand. Premium costs $17.99 a month or $79.99 a year. An archived copy of its Premium page from August 2022 shows a monthly price less than half of today’s, one from March 2023 shows a price in between, and an archived help article from May 2024 already shows today’s. The yearly price is the same in every copy and today: the increase is on the monthly plan.
The free version can also show upgrade messages. EveryDollar’s help center says they cannot be removed in the free version and that Premium removes them. The same help center describes a Financial Peace All Access membership that includes Premium and Financial Peace University, and some of its articles point readers to SmartVestor Pro advisors and RamseyTrusted real estate agents.
Bank connections also vary by bank, and EveryDollar publishes the ratings. As of October 2026, its list rates Citibank, Citizens Bank and Discover Bank Poor, which it describes as unstable with infrequent updates, and Wells Fargo and Truist Fair. It rates Chase, Bank of America and Capital One Good, a reliable connection with regular updates. Check your bank on that list before you pay for Premium.
What EveryDollar does well
EveryDollar keeps zero-based budgeting simple, and plenty of people should stay. Its App Store and Google Play listings count unlimited budget categories and sharing a household budget among the free features, so if you are happy entering transactions by hand, you may never need Premium. Of the four picks, only YNAB and Monarch Money give each partner their own login, and neither has a free plan, so a couple sharing the free version may be better off staying.
- A free version that works with manual entry
- A simple zero-based budget screen
- Sharing one budget with a spouse, each with their own login

The picks
Pockita
Pick it if you want to log spending in seconds on your phone and never connect a bank.
Pockita is the pick if you want to log spending on your phone and keep your bank out of it. You log by voice, receipt or a few taps, set a monthly limit for each category, and get alerts as a budget nears its limit. You give up the free version, the zero-based method, EveryDollar Premium’s debt payoff tracker, a web version, sharing a budget with your spouse and importing your EveryDollar data. EveryDollar’s mobile app and Premium are available in the United States only, and it supports U.S. dollars only, while Pockita lets you choose the currency you budget in. Pockita is $9.99 a month after a 7-day free trial, or $39.99 once for lifetime access.
YNAB
Pick it if you want a strict method and enjoy a weekly budgeting session.
YNAB is the closest match to EveryDollar’s method, built around giving every dollar a job. It includes bank sync, and one subscription covers a group of up to six people, each with their own login, where EveryDollar’s household feature is for couples. It costs $14.99 a month or $109 a year after a 34-day free trial (no card needed if you sign up on YNAB’s site), against EveryDollar Premium’s $17.99 a month or $79.99 a year. YNAB has no free plan.
Goodbudget
Pick it if you like the envelope method and want a free plan you can share.
Goodbudget budgets with envelopes and has a free plan: 20 envelopes, 1 account and 2 devices, where EveryDollar’s free version has unlimited categories. The paid plan is $10 a month or $80 a year and adds automatic bank sync for US banks. Sharing is one login used on each device, where EveryDollar gives each spouse their own.
Monarch Money
Pick it if you want every account synced into one dashboard you share with a partner.
Monarch is the pick if you want a synced dashboard instead of a budget you fill in by hand. It links your accounts, works on iPhone, Android and the web, and gives a partner their own login. It costs $14.99 a month or $99.99 a year after a 7-day free trial, against EveryDollar Premium’s $17.99 a month or $79.99 a year.

Switching from EveryDollar to Pockita
- If you have Premium, export what you want to keep: sign in at EveryDollar.com, scroll to the bottom of the budget, click Download CSV, choose the data and confirm. It exports one month at a time, so change the month and repeat for each one you want. The free version has no CSV export, so print the budget from your browser instead. EveryDollar says its 14-day trial is for new users only, so check that you qualify before you rely on it to unlock the export. Pockita starts fresh rather than importing it, so the export is just your own record.
- Pick a start date, ideally the first of a month, and log forward from there.
- Set monthly limits for the 8 to 15 categories you actually look at. Pockita sets a limit per category rather than planning every dollar, and it does not pull transactions from a bank, so you log them yourself.
- Run both apps for a week and compare the totals. Then cancel Premium if you pay for it: sign in to account.ramseysolutions.com/subscriptions, click Manage Subscriptions, then Cancel Subscription or toggle Auto-Renew Off. If you subscribed through Apple or Google Play, cancel with that provider instead. Cancelling does not delete your account, and you keep the free version.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best EveryDollar alternative?
It depends on what you want to keep. For zero-based budgeting with a 34-day trial, YNAB. For envelopes with a free plan, Goodbudget. For a synced dashboard, Monarch Money. For quick phone logging with no bank connection, Pockita. Pockita has no free plan, no zero-based method and no shared budgets, so if you use EveryDollar’s free version, its method or its household sharing, staying may be the better call.
Is there a cheaper way to get bank sync than EveryDollar Premium?
It depends on how you pay. Paid monthly, yes: Goodbudget Premium is $10, Monarch Money $14.99 and YNAB $14.99, each less than EveryDollar Premium at $17.99. Paid yearly, no: EveryDollar Premium is $79.99 a year, the lowest of the four, against $80 for Goodbudget Premium, $99.99 for Monarch Money and $109 for YNAB. Two caveats: Goodbudget’s bank sync covers US banks only, and EveryDollar’s mobile app and Premium are available in the United States only. The cheapest route is to skip bank sync. EveryDollar’s free version and Goodbudget’s free plan cost nothing if you enter transactions yourself. Pockita never connects to a bank either, and at $9.99 a month after a 7-day free trial it costs less per month than EveryDollar Premium. Paid monthly for a year, Pockita costs more than EveryDollar Premium’s yearly price, but its lifetime price, $39.99 once, is less than one year of EveryDollar Premium.
Is there a free alternative to EveryDollar?
EveryDollar has a free version of its own, with unlimited budget categories and manual entry, so the question is whether another free plan suits you better. Among the four picks, only Goodbudget has one: 20 envelopes, 1 account and 2 devices, shared through one login used on each device. YNAB, Monarch Money and Pockita are paid. YNAB gives you 34 days free with no card when you sign up on its site, Monarch Money a 7-day free trial, and Pockita a 7-day free trial on its $9.99 monthly plan, or $39.99 once for lifetime access. YNAB also offers college students a free 365-day trial.
Is there a zero-based budgeting app besides EveryDollar?
Yes: YNAB. It is built around giving every dollar a job, which its own blog calls a fundamental element of zero-based budgeting, and it costs $14.99 a month or $109 a year after a 34-day free trial. Monarch Money defaults to flex budgeting, though its help center says you can still follow a zero-based style in it if your budget is based on cash flow, where income equals expenses plus savings. Goodbudget describes itself as envelope budgeting, and YNAB’s blog calls cash envelope budgeting another form of zero-based budgeting. Pockita sets monthly limits by category and is not strictly zero-based, and its own pricing page points to YNAB for that. Our zero-based budgeting guide explains how the method works.
Can I move my EveryDollar budget to another app?
Only in part. EveryDollar Premium lets you export each month’s budget or tracked transactions as a CSV file from EveryDollar.com, one month at a time. The free version has no CSV export, so you would print the budget from your browser. EveryDollar does not import files such as CSV, QIF, QFX or OFX. Whether another app can import an EveryDollar CSV depends on that app. Pockita does not import data, so the simplest way to switch is to start fresh from the first of a month and rebuild only the categories you use.
